Technical requirements

Almost any current computer, tablet, or phone will run the Trustee Training program. This page covers what is needed, and what an institutional IT team may need to allow.

Last reviewed 19 August 2026

Browsers & devices

Use a current version of any mainstream browser. We support the two most recent major versions of each, on desktop and mobile:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari

Internet Explorer is not supported. If your institution still standardises on it, use Edge for the training.

Operating system

Windows 10 or later, macOS 12 or later, ChromeOS, iOS/iPadOS 16 or later, Android 10 or later

Screen

Works from phone width upward; a screen of 1024×768 or larger is more comfortable for the video and slides

Audio

Speakers or headphones. Captions are available where a module has them

Slide decks

Any PDF reader, including the one built into your browser

Required browser settings

  • JavaScript must be enabled. Sign-in, video playback, and progress tracking all depend on it.
  • Cookies must be allowed for this site. Your signed-in session is held in a cookie; blocking them means being signed out on every page.
  • Avoid private or incognito windows for the training itself. They work, but closing the window can sign you out sooner than you expect.
  • Ad blockers and privacy extensions occasionally block video streaming. If a module will not start, try again with extensions disabled for this site.

Connection & video

Modules stream as adaptive video: the quality adjusts to the connection you have, so a slower link means a softer picture rather than a stalled one.

Minimum

About 1.5 Mbps download — plays reliably at standard definition

Recommended

5 Mbps or better for high definition, and for the smoothest seeking between chapters

Interruptions

Progress saves as you watch, so a dropped connection costs you at most the last few seconds

Email delivery

Signing in relies on email: you receive a six-digit code each time you sign in, and invitations, completion confirmations, and reminders arrive the same way. Institutional mail filters are the most common reason a code does not appear.

  • Mail is sent from no-reply@boston-consortium.org, with replies directed to info@boston-consortium.org.
  • Ask your IT team to allow that sender if codes are slow or missing — this is worth doing before you invite a whole board.
  • Check junk, clutter, and quarantine folders. If a code has expired, simply request another.

Institutional networks

If your institution filters outbound traffic, these are the hosts the portal needs. Most trustees never need this section — it is here for IT teams preparing for a board-wide rollout.

The portal

trusteetraining.boston-consortium.org (HTTPS)

Video delivery

stream.mux.com and image.mux.com — the streaming provider that serves module video and thumbnails

Payment (administrators only)

js.stripe.com and api.stripe.com, used on the enrollment and renewal payment pages

Streaming video over HTTPS must be permitted; a proxy that inspects or re-encodes video will interfere with playback.

Troubleshooting

The video will not start

Reload the page first. If it still will not play, try another browser, disable ad-blocking extensions for this site, and — if you are on an institutional network or VPN — try a home or mobile connection. If it plays elsewhere, the block is on the network, and the hosts listed above are what your IT team needs to allow.

My progress was not saved

Progress saves continuously while a module plays, so this usually means cookies were blocked or the session had already ended. Allow cookies for the site, sign in again, and reopen the module — you will be returned to where you were.

I keep being signed out

Check that cookies are permitted and that you are not in a private window. Some security software clears cookies between page loads; allowing this site as an exception resolves it.

My sign-in code has not arrived

Still need help?

Before writing in, it is worth trying a different browser — it separates a device problem from an account one in about a minute.

Email trustee-training@boston-consortium.org. Please tell us which browser you are using and, if you can, the name of the module you were on — it usually saves a round trip.
